Behavioral Issues are probably the most frustrating
problems for many people who have pets. They are an all too common reason people use when they give up their pets which adds
to the overload at shelters and rescues.
In order to overcome these issues, you have to sit
down and look at your homelife. The reason I say this is because it is not just the animals with behavioral issues, it is
also the owners. I realize that may be hard to understand that your behavior affects your pets but it most certainly
does. You may very well be the cause of your pet's undesireable behavior.
If your pet is urinating outside the litter box or
anywhere in the house it should not be or barking constantly or starting to be aggressive, etc. There is
something going on in your home that you are turning a blind eye to. There may have been changes that are upsetting your pets,
unclean conditions, abuse in any form such as yelling and throwing objects, loud noises, stressful atmosphere, neglect, etc.
Animals are very sensitive and respond the same way we do to the atmosphere they live in.
Look at your life and the changes that happened when
you noticed your pet showing undesireable behavior. Did you find a new love? Are they replacing your pet in your
life? Are you gone from home more often? Is there more anger or loud, unsettling noise? Do you show less
attention to your pets? Are you short tempered with them? Is there a new pet in the home? Are there people
in and out alot? Do you keep the litter boxes clean daily? Have you put in new rugs or painted that altered the
comforting and familiar smell of your pet's home?
In a breeding program environment, look at issues
like overcrowding, cleanliness, are the animals getting exosure to sunlight and fresh air or kept in dark and dreary quarters?
Are they comfortable, loved - do they get individual and loving attention? Do they get a fresh, high quality food and
clean water?
There are so many things that cause upset in animals
and humans alike. Animals are very sensitive to our emotions and moods, environment, etc. You can overcome
any behavioral problem if you take the time to address your own frustrations and learn to observe your animals.
You will be amazed at the difference you can make if you just take the time to educate yourself.
This is where flower essences can pretty much be
considered a miracle. They work almost instantly on animals, a little longer on humans. Physiological and behavioral
problems can be relinquished with flower essences providing there are no underlying physical conditions you may not be
aware of. You should have your pet checked for any health problems to rule them out first. Many health and emotionally
related issues can be relieved with just a good diet of fresh, wholesome food alone and work even better combined with flower
essences.
May I recommend a wonderful book:
Flower Essences for
Animals
By Lila Devi
(
pronounced : lee-la day-vee)
I have been fortunate to speak with
Lila Devi numerous times and she strikes me as a most generous, caring person. She is very devoted to her work and the
well being of all animals. She has been most helpful with my introduction to flower essences and has graciously
commented on this website and I am very flattered she enjoyed it. Many thanks to you Lila for your kind words and your
guidance.
Lila is the founder of the line of Spirit-In-Nature
( formerly Master's Flower Essences) developed in 1977 which is the oldest essences line outside of the UK. Her line
is based on the initial interpretations by Paramhansa Yogananda who was an internationally renowned teacher from India.
I am finding in most of my studies that quite a large
number of our most incredible healers in this world are found in or originate from India - they are a remarkably intelligent
people.
This book goes in hand with the information on this
page using the Spirit-In-Nature flower essences. It is a wonderful book and I highly suggest all pet owners, breeders,
shelters and rescues to read it. I believe essences can be of great value to shelters and rescues especially due
to the fact that these animals are overwhelmed with stress, fear, instability, etc. These issues alone will compromise
their immune systems and make them vulnerable to illness as it is. Essences can help them cope, settle in and
for some - be easier to handle.
This book will open your eyes and help you understand
your own behavior as well as your pets and help you get at the root of most of your behavioral issues and correct them !
You can correct them most definitely without a professional. There is no need to feel hopeless or lash out in anger -
you only need to understand what is causing the emotional upset in your pet and how to address it. You just have
to want to learn and apply yourself. You can help your friends with their issues once you learn the basics which can
help prevent an owner giving up their pet out of frustration and hopelessness.
There are many different kinds of flower essences
and they all work. I am currently only working with the Spirit-In-Nature line and this page will hopefully help alot
of you and your animals overcome your emotions so that you may live together happily.
Flower essences are becoming more and
more valuable in dealing with behavioral issues in both humans and animals. Lila Devi's book is in-depth
and describes in detail, each of the flower essences which are mainly essences of vegetables and fruits.
It is an incredible book and so interesting. You will find much help in dealing with all animals including horses.
There is a growing awareness concerning the health benefits of essences so please read the book and give them
a try :-)
You can obtain flower essences online or from
a local herbal apothecary or health food store.
You can also try the well known Bach's flower essences which is
the oldest flower essences line today. They are made in England by Nelson's Pharmacy ( est. 1860 ). You can
obtain them at:
Washington Homeopathic
Products, Inc.
I find the Spirit-In-Nature essences to
be "unique" as they are derived from the flowers of fruits and vegetables. They are both excellent choices either way
and well worth their weight in gold.
There are other essences out there but I prefer the
use of either of the before mentioned as they are the oldest essences available that have been in use the longest which
makes them more credible.
They compliment any herbal therapy you may be using
with your pets. You cannot overdose with essences and they are not addictive - they are a very pure, gentle, emotional "medicine"
for use with people and animals and even other plants.
Children can benefit greatly also, especially those
who are hyperactive. I am not a doctor or veterinarian, only self educated and I have seen children with ADD put on
cold pressed Flax Oil and flower essences instead of drugs and it worked wonders - naturally. Most children with this
disorder suffer imbalances of fatty acids which the flax oil replenishes. The essences bring balance and harmony
to their emotional well being and it all works together - it is so sad that people just don't want to learn how to use natural
healing - they would be amazed at the ease and such low cost in the long run. It just bewilders me sometimes that we
are all so brainwashed into thinking we cannot heal ourselves or our pets. I believe I am alot more intelligent than
that - we all are.
